This year's theme for Women's Day is focused around global efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030. The United Nation's strategic plan for the next few years details the actions required to reach this goal and empower women and girls everywhere.

The vision for a gender equal world

One of the greatest injustices in the world is inequality and discrimination against women. According to recent reports, there has been a rise in the number of human trafficking victims in South Africa and crime relating to the exploitation of adults and children for commercial sex reasons.  

The Trafficking in Persons (TIP) reports that from April 2021 to March 2022, 83 people were involved in trafficking, compared to 16 people the previous year. 

Cape Island supports the efforts of two not for profit organisations working to bring restoration to these victims of human trafficking.

The team consists of a community of passionate people with a vision to spread love, hope and justice in the quest to end modern day slavery and exploitation.

The faith-based organization is a safe home that aims to bring holistic restoration to women and children coming out of human trafficking and exploitation.

The matriarchal elephant at the centre of our artwork is a symbol of feminine strength. African Storm acknowledges the courage of women as both a gift and a force to be reckoned with. Harnessing this strength and working towards empowering women is a crucial element in the cause to help transform the picture for future generations and move closer to achieving a gender-equal world.
